Is it obvious that you are a follower of Christ?

Illustration: Basketball Coach John Wooten always started his 1st training day with no basketballs but the basics of how to best put your socks & shoes on.

Teaching the basics.

Knowing that if your shoes and socks are not on properly then you will get a blister and you will be off your game.

It is our responsibility to pass on what we have learned to others.

How do we truly follow Christ? Followers are examples.

And you should imitate me, just as I imitate Christ. I am so glad that you always keep me in your thoughts, and that you are following the teachings I passed on to you. (1 Corinthians 11:1, 2 NLT) - Apostle Paul

Why is important to teach others about Christ? Are we our responsible for others?

Afterward the Lord asked Cain, “Where is your brother? Where is Abel?”
“I don’t know,” Cain responded. “Am I my brother’s guardian?” But the Lord said, “What have you done? Listen! Your brother’s blood cries out to me from the ground! (Genesis 4:9, 10 NLT)

But you must be careful so that your freedom does not cause others with a weaker conscience to stumble. So if what I eat causes another believer to sin, I will never eat meat again as long as I live—for I don’t want to cause another believer to stumble. (1 Corinthians 8:9, 13 NLT)

It is better not to eat meat or drink wine or do anything else if it might cause another believer to stumble. You may believe there’s nothing wrong with what you are doing, but keep it between yourself and God. Blessed are those who don’t feel guilty for doing something they have decided is right. (Romans 14:21, 22 NLT)

How does this relate to being a true follower of Christ? Our brothers welfare is more important than our freedoms.

“I don’t know,” Cain responded. “Am I my brother’s guardian?”

Followers are reflections of Christ! We reflect Him as best we can. We try to reflect Christ in our speech and in our actions.

Remember there is ALWAYS someone watching you. Are you reflecting Jesus?

Therefore we ARE our brothers keeper. That is why it matters how we act, how we speak, what we watch on tv, and look at our lives.

It ought to be OBVIOUS to anyone who looks at us who we follow. Those who look at our lives are our brothers.

Are you a follower of Jesus Christ?

20120219 Notes
Sermon series: Follow
Eastside Christian Church
Pastor Dave Hastings

First we need to know who and what NOT to follow.

Then we need understand that ONLY God is righteous and Jesus is the offering for our sins.

For God made Christ, who never sinned, to be the offering for our sin, so that we could be made right with God through Christ. (2 Corinthians 5:21 NLT)

Do we "Follow" God? Are you really a follower? How do you know?

Then he (Jesus) said to the crowd, “If any of you wants to be my follower, you must turn from your selfish ways, take up your cross daily, and follow me. If you try to hang on to your life, you will lose it. But if you give up your life for my sake, you will save it. And what do you benefit if you gain the whole world but are yourself lost or destroyed? (Luke 9:23-25 NLT)

In Luke 9:23 we must deny ownership. Of our life of our stuff and everything else in our of our lives. We must remember who owns EVERYTHING.

My life belongs to God NOT me! We need to look at our life the way Jesus did in the garden. "Father not my will but YOUR will be done."

If we do NOT put God in the drivers seat of our life and give Him the full ownership that only He is due... Then we are stealing from God what rightfully belongs to Him!

We need to be able to endure suffering. Part of that suffering is allowing God to take control. We always want to own our lives and that is just NOT easy.

I will be faithful. I will, no matter what junk that happens or what suffering that comes my way, be faithful to God and remind myself daily that He is in control and owns my life and it is not my own.

What are we working through today so we can be true followers of Christ?

Public television

It really amazes me how pubic tv say that animals evolve to be able to do something.

Actually what they are doing is they are adapting to their surroundings.

I'm watching a show on public television about raccoons and how these raccoons when they come into the city are evolving the ability to survive in the city.

They fail to take into consideration the fact that God gave them the ability to adapt to a number of different environments. When you honestly look at the reason why these animals are able to adapt to their environments it's because they were given the information before hand.

The information is inlaid in their DNA for them to be able to adapt to different surroundings or to different environments. And everybody knows that information only and always comes from an intelligent source. One more evidence to point to the Creator of the universe and His hand it work in His creation.

Have a blessed evening!!

Tuesday Geocaching

Was out doing a little walking today at my lunchtime. When I ran across a Geocachers car!

It is so much fun to do Geo caching. You can do it just about any place at all any place you have your GPS device with you.

Geocaching is everywhere!

Was out taking a little walk for lunch today and found a vehicle in a local parking lot that had a Geobug on it.

Geocaching is a great hobby and it can be done just about any place. You can do it in the woods or in the city just about any place that you have your GPS device.

Happy Geocaching and have a blessed day!

What did you think about Madonna in the halftime event?

You know me personally I wasn't really overly excited about Madonna being in the halftime show but I am got to eat my words I was fairly impressed.

I must say being of that genre or that age group that had Madonna in it I am very impress.
