Sermon series: Follow
Eastside Christian Church
Pastor Dave Hastings
First we need to know who and what NOT to follow.
Then we need understand that ONLY God is righteous and Jesus is the offering for our sins.
For God made Christ, who never sinned, to be the offering for our sin, so that we could be made right with God through Christ. (2 Corinthians 5:21 NLT)
Do we "Follow" God? Are you really a follower? How do you know?
Then he (Jesus) said to the crowd, “If any of you wants to be my follower, you must turn from your selfish ways, take up your cross daily, and follow me. If you try to hang on to your life, you will lose it. But if you give up your life for my sake, you will save it. And what do you benefit if you gain the whole world but are yourself lost or destroyed? (Luke 9:23-25 NLT)
In Luke 9:23 we must deny ownership. Of our life of our stuff and everything else in our of our lives. We must remember who owns EVERYTHING.
My life belongs to God NOT me! We need to look at our life the way Jesus did in the garden. "Father not my will but YOUR will be done."
If we do NOT put God in the drivers seat of our life and give Him the full ownership that only He is due... Then we are stealing from God what rightfully belongs to Him!
We need to be able to endure suffering. Part of that suffering is allowing God to take control. We always want to own our lives and that is just NOT easy.
I will be faithful. I will, no matter what junk that happens or what suffering that comes my way, be faithful to God and remind myself daily that He is in control and owns my life and it is not my own.
What are we working through today so we can be true followers of Christ?
