48 Hours After the Tornadoes
Sometimes Things Happen That Effect Many or Even All People.
Does God Word have something to say about when the terrible things like tornadoes happen?
** Tragedy does NOT equal sin. It is not God's normal behavior to throw tragedy at us when we sin.
About this time Jesus was informed that Pilate had murdered some people from Galilee as they were offering sacrifices at the Temple. “
Do you think those Galileans were worse sinners than all the other people from Galilee?” Jesus asked. “Is that why they suffered? Not at all! And you will perish, too, unless you repent of your sins and turn to God. And what about the eighteen people who died when the tower in Siloam fell on them? Were they the worst sinners in Jerusalem? No, and I tell you again that unless you repent, you will perish, too.” (Luke 13:1-5 NLT)
We live in a fallen world and as long as we live in this fallen and broken world we will experience suffering.
** Tragedy should cause us to be thankful. Thankful for each and every blessing. Why is one person in the midst of tragedy and another person is unharmed?
Do we ever recognize the blessing of God's Protection?
For you are my hiding place; you protect me from trouble. You surround me with songs of victory. (Psalm 32:7 NLT)
** Tragedy heightens our dependence on God.
All praise to God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ. God is our merciful Father and the source of all comfort. He comforts us in all our troubles so that we can comfort others. When they are troubled, we will be able to give them the same comfort God has given us. (2 Corinthians 1:3, 4 NLT)
Are they servants of Christ? I know I sound like a madman, but I have served him far more! I have worked harder, been put in prison more often, been whipped times without number, and faced death again and again. (2 Corinthians 11:23 NLT)
** Tragedy gives the church the opportunity to BE the Church!
All the believers were united in heart and mind. And they felt that what they owned was not their own, so they shared everything they had. The apostles testified powerfully to the resurrection of the Lord Jesus, and God’s great blessing was upon them all. There were no needy people among them, because those who owned land or houses would sell them and bring the money to the apostles to give to those in need. (Acts 4:32-35 NLT)
The church needs to be the light of the world.
** Tragedy teaches the true meaning of faith.
Faith is the confidence that what we hope for will actually happen; it gives us assurance about things we cannot see. (Hebrews 11:1 NLT)
